Last install of the spring season! And wow it was hot, we ended up scheduling hottest week of the year so far. The garden features three 3x8x16” western red cedar smooth beds built with 1.5” thick boards. We also added in 4×4 edging with the same cedar and added a Carolina beige pathway. Got in the garden yesterday and harvested the onions and potatoes. Our onions did better this year with the absence of allium thrips and heavy feeding Potatoes didn’t do well this year, I think the sun is gettin blocked more from trees. This past week we harvested our garlic. We noticed that they were starting to yellow/brown and even flop over (second pic) Normally we would wait for a dry spell but since it’s been wet and was going to continue to be wet, we thought it would be best to go ahead and harvest to avoid damage to the bulbs. We cleaned them off best we could and hung them on an old baby gate in our shed with a box fan on them. They will stay there for about three weeks or so. You don’t need to do this step if you intend on using immediately. This cures them for storage. There were a few bulbs that detached from the plant when we pulled them up.
